Mungoshi Up for Top Hip Hop Award

Whoever coined the adage that an apple does not fall far away from its mother tree never thought that one day Zimbabwe will have a family like the Mungoshis. The name commonly associated with renowned author and speaker, Charles and Jesesi, famous for her leading role in the film Neria, continues to be an oasis of varying talents.

Following in the footsteps of Charles Mungoshi is his son named after him. Charles Mungoshi Junior has established himself as an author of repute with a number of short stories and books to his name.

However, it is Tinashe, son to Charles’ cousin who has surprised many by making a name for himself albeit in what could be described as the family’s unfamiliar territory. Affectionately known as Tash Manhizze, he has announced his grant entrance in the music industry after being nominated in the Best Producer of Year category at the 2016 Zim Hip Hop Awards.

Tash Manhizze who has worked with upcoming artists like Wishy is equally surprised by his musical exploits but is convinced he will make a mark in his chosen landscape.

“When I received the nomination I was obviously surprised simply because I’m still new to this game. But then I sat down and thought about it, then it sank in that it’s something that had to happen because everyone from my family has excelled in whatever they do,

“Even when I told my father about the nomination, he wasn’t surprised, he acted normal because he knew it was only a matter of time before my efforts were rewarded which is nothing unusual if you are a Mungoshi, “Tash braggingly said.

Tash Maniez who is fairly new in the music industry believes he will make his mark by concentrating on promoting young and upcoming rather than seasoned artistes.

“I prefer working with upcoming artists who will appreciate my efforts in trying to mold them. This is unlike working with big artists who may never want to listen a young producer,” he said.

The Zim Hip Hop awards are held annually in recognition of artists who would have done well in the genre which is still suffering from backlash especially from the older generation who view the genre with skepticism
