The Zanu-PF Youth league has today attacked the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and non-governmental organisations, accusing them of masterminding recent violent protests that rocked the country a fortnight ago.
The youth league’s deputy secretary for information, Yeukai Simbanegavi said they will not fold hands and watch some NGOs and opposition parties sabotaging the country and government.
“We warn any non-governmental organisations and some small political parties such as the MDC-A to desist from using youth as political weapons of mass destruction.
“Youths are the light of any nation, we condemn those that want to use young people to bring darkens to their country through burning and vandalizing homes and businesses while sabotaging the economy by forcing people to stay away from their economic endeavors,” said Simbanegavi.
She defended President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying he is committed to seeing political freedom for all.
The Zanu PF youths threats follows a Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) organised three-day stay away that turned into a national shutdown.
Simbanegavi further accused NGOs and the opposition of abusing social media in their plans to destabilize the economy and government, threatening that the youth league will deal with any “rogue elements” caught wanting.
“The youth league is not weak. We can deal with any rogue elements but we believe in a peaceful and nation building young generation,” she threatened.
Meanwhile, the opposition MDC Spokesperson Jacob Mafume could not be reached for a comment but is on record distancing his party from the violent protests that saw over 1000 people including children being arrested across the country.
Zimbabwe was rocked by nationwide protests following government’s decision to hike the price of fuel by 150 percent.
The state reacted violently unleashing police and soldiers who launched a crackdown that claimed more than 12 lives and hundreds injured.
