Former Health and Childcare Minister, Dr. David Parirenyatwa has been granted $500 bail by a Harare Magistrate following his arrest earlier today on allegations of abuse of office.
Magistrate Elisha Singano granted the former minister $500 bail and remanded him to October 26. He was ordered not to interfere with witnesses, surrender his passport and report twice weekly to the police.
Parirenyatwa who lost his ministerial post when a new cabinet was announced earlier this week, adds to a number of former ministers who have been dragged before the courts since President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over from Robert Mugabe in 2017.
The ex-minister is accused of unlawfully directing the board of the National Pharmaceutical Company of Zimbabwe (NatPharm) to terminate the contract of its managing director, Flora Nancy Sikefu, on June 4 this year.
Other former ministers whose cases are still pending before the courts include Walter Mzembi, Samuel Udenge, and Ignatius Chombo while others have since fled the country.
