The late Rev Ndabaningi Sithole’s party, ZANU Ndonga has been rocked by turmoil following the decision by a group of members led by Wilson Khumbula to join forces with the ruling Zanu PF.
Kumbula, the former Chipinge South Member of Parliament appeared on national television, ZBC-TV on Monday night saying they have dissolved the movement to join hands with the ruling Zanu PF.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Zanu Ndonga President, Denford Musiyariri distanced the party from Kumbula’s decision saying they have no business working with Zanu PF which they accuse of illegally using their name against a High Court ruling of 1987.
“Given the above historical context, it is nonsensical and illogical that ZANU Ndonga, the party that birthed the armed liberation struggle would be dissolved into ZANU PF, an entity which broke away as a faction of ZANU, and which more importantly has been illegally using the name “ZANU” for over 30 years now.
“Zimbabwe is where it is today because ZANU PF’s self-centered activities have ignored the original course of the liberation struggle which was and still is the people’s welfare,” said Musiyariri.
“After independence in 1980 the illegality of the continued use of the name “ZANU” by ZANU-PF was vehemently fought by ZANU which it won in a landmark decision in 1987 (ZANU vs ZANU PF) in which the High Court of Zimbabwe ruled that ZANU PF was barred from using the name “ZANU,” added Musiyariri.
He added that Zanu PF is using Kumbula to mask the truths about ZANU Ndonga and hide the ruling party’s indiscretions relating to the judgements it has never respected.
“Wilson Kumbula was expelled from the party in 2005 following which a new acting President, Reverend Dr. Fred J. Gomendo was appointed.
“In Shona we say, “Rine manyanga hariputirwi” and it is clear that Wilson Kumbula is unfortunately being used by Zanu PF to continue to mislead Zimbabweans, mask the truths about ZANU Ndonga and hide ZANU PFs indiscretions relating to the judgements it has never respected and many other issues that are of historical significance to Zimbabweans.
“As such, Wilson Kumbula has no authority to act on any matters to do with Zanu Ndonga,” said Musiyarira.
He said Zanu PF is a self-centred party which does not respect the founding values of the liberation struggle.
“Zimbabwe is where it is today because Zanu PF’s self-centered activities have ignored the original course of the liberation struggle which was and still is the people’s welfare,” said Musiyarira.
