Gumbo Warns VID Officials, Vows To End Corruption

Minister of Infrastructural and Development Jorum Gumbo has pledged to deal with the rot at the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) and has given them a 100-day ultimatum to stop corrupt activities or risk prosecution.

Briefing the press at a conference in Harare on Wednesday, Minister Gumbo said, “I would like to warn all driving school owners and their staff that all allegations of corruption will be fully investigated and the long arm of the law will catch up on them.”

“It Is alleged that corrupt instructors mention the bribe to a leaner, collect it and pass it to an equally corrupt, then they obviously share the loot,” added Gumbo.

He warned driving school owners and their staff , most of whom are believed to be conduits of corrupt activities together with VID driving examiners that allegations of corruption will be fully investigated and the long arm of the law will catch up with them

It is also said that some officials are telling leaners to pay bribe saying without it they will never pass the leaning test.

However, Gumbo vowed to make that to an end and tell those responsible to resign.

“Any VID official who thinks that corruption is in their DNA should resign with immediate effect,” he said encouraging VID deports to be on alert as well as fish out all unruly element within their stations.

The same warning was extended to VID driving examiners. The new Government, Dr Gumbo said, has a zero tolerance to corruption.
