Weekend Sports Round Up

The game that went wrong

What was supposed to be the ‘game of the week’ never lived to its billing as violence that erupted at Barbourfields Stadium following a Dynamos equalizer just after 40 minutes of play made sure the match is one to quickly forget.

Ugly scenes that ensued at Emagumeni after Dembare forward, Christian Ntouba had scored what Bosso fans thought as an offside paints a sad picture of Zimbabwean football.

Hooliganism once again reined in the local league and it remains to be seen what PSL’s verdict will be but measures have to be put in place to ensure that violence finds no place in the beautiful game.

In other matches played over the weekend,

Yadah humbled

After a promising start to their life in the top flight league, Yadah have found the going tough in their last three outings. The Walter Magaya owned side has now lost three in a row and problems rocking the team seems far from over.

On Saturday, they agonizingly lost one nil to Chicken Inn at the National Sports Stadium after conceding in the 90th minute.

The once promising team must find its feet very soon or they risk an immediate return to Division one football.

Cricket

Canada beat Zimbabwe’s High Performance Centre (HPC) XI by 71 runs in a warm-up match played at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

Were it not for the last six overs which betrayed the home side’s inexperience as they conceded a whopping 70 runs, perhaps the entirely Under-19 side coached by Stephen Mangongo would have fancied their chance against the tourists.
