Zimbabweans have angrily reacted to Highfield West legislator, Psychology Maziwisa’s poster which promised rice to those who attend his star rally slated for Saturday the 4th of February at Zororo Centre in Highfield.

Top on the on the agenda of Maziwisa’s star rally is rice which he promised to those who attend, “Huyai Mupihwe Rice” but this has angered Zimbabweans who took to social media to launch vitriolic attacks on the Zanu PF Deputy Information Director, accusing him of vote buying and taking people for granted by reducing their needs to food against pressing issues that are affecting the country.

Commenting on a Facebook post by Misheck Russo Rusere, Economist and member of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Vince Musewe said lack of economic reforms and absence of sustainable incomes for people were the reason behind politics of patronage and food hand outs.

“Poverty dis-empowers and absolute poverty disempowers absolutely. Without economic reforms and creation of sustainable incomes our people will remained imprisoned by the politics of patronage and food hand outs,” said Musewe.

Ndumiso Mnkandla urged politicians to discard strategies that have become obsolete and devise contemporary strategies that are not meant to bend others to the will of those who wield power.

“But as we all know politics in its very nature is about power – those who are elected get power, consolidate it and use it for their egocentric purposes. I hate politics but the ubiquity of politics makes it an inevitable part of life,” said Mnkandla.

Former Councilor of the City of Harare, Warship Dumba urged the church and opinion leaders to condemn vote buying adding that Maziwisa’s promise of rice to party supporters was degrading.

“The church and other opinion leaders must condemn any form of vote buying and encourage those they lead never to vote for those who buy them for votes. That is degrading to say the least,” said Dumba.

Kerina Mujati said Maziwisa was ignorant, arrogant and selfish calling for his dismissal out of Zanu PF leadership.

“This is what happen when you make noise and suddenly elevated into politics. Since his noise making days what has he achieved? The last time I listened to his interview on News during Election 2013, he was pathetic alongside Jessie Majome. I am not amused by his ignorant, ignoramus, arrogant and selfish campaign poster.

“People like Psychology Maziwisa are the chaff within ZanuPF we are fed up of and we would appreciate if they are booted out of leadership. You tell our people they are worth to be given a bag of rice yet there are real life challenges facing them each moment? You have absolutely lost touch with the sufferings of our people on grassroots and you suffer the “bigman” syndrome of many like you in our politics,” charged Mujati.

Bobby Supiya expressed his disappointment with Maziwisa saying the once promising politician was failing those who believed in him.

“I cannot express my disappointment enough on the behavior of a once promising political aspirant like Psychology Maziwisa. If ever there was living proof that power corrupts then this is a case in point. To be silent since election 2013 and then to emerge with this drivel is absolutely unforgiveable,” fumed Supiya.
