President Robert Mugabe has said his Vice President, Emmerson Mnangagwa was lucky to live another day after his alleged poisoning incident at the party’s Gwanda rally.

Addressing thousands of party supporters in Gweru during the seventh Presidential Youth Interface, Mugabe poured cold water on allegations of food poising or witchcraft saying his interaction with his trusted lieutenant’s doctors confirmed that he had not ate poisoned food.

“I had an hour long meeting with his (Mnangagwa’) doctor on the issue and he confirmed that they did not find any traits of food poising after conducting a series of blood tests.

“But what amazed us all, with his doctor included, was how he survived after he suffered from severe diarrhea and swelling of the face as well as vomiting and collapsing,” said Mugabe.

He added that “the doctor confirmed they fought hard to save his life as they gave him four drips in succession. He was almost dying this man,” added Mugabe as Mnangagwa forced a grin on his face.”

President Mugabe said the party will continue with investigations to figure out the causes of the illness.

He attacked party members who allege that Mnangagwa ate ice cream from the first family dairy enterprise Alpha and Omega at the Gwanda rally.

“We hear there are witches and that others were poisoned through ice cream, he (Mnangagwa) confirmed that he did not eat any ice cream, so that mentality must stop,” said Mugabe.
