Youths from the Tsvangirai led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) have vowed to retaliate to any form of violence from the ruling Zanu PF saying they have a duty to protect party members ahead of the 2018 elections.

Addressing the media in Harare on Tuesday, MDC-T Youth Assembly Chairperson, Happymore Chidziva said his party stands ready to take Zanu PF’s violent antics head on.

“If Zanu PF provoke us, we are not going to fold our hands, we will flex our muscles, and we will make sure that they will not go away with it.

“I have gone through Zimbabwe, the reason being that Zanu PF has been in the habit of using the rural electorate and intimidating them with violence, but we are now ready for them, we are ready to protect the people who include our mothers and fathers.

“We will not allow Zanu PF to be violent again and we will not allow it to intimidate our people again. Zanu PF doesn’t have monopoly over violence, if they trigger violence, we say enough is enough” said Chidziva.

He added that MDC-T Youth Assembly will be one high alert as the nation heads into the much awaited 2018 elections.

Meanwhile, MDC-T  Youth Assembly Secretary General, Lovemore Chinoputsa has reaffirmed the wing’s support to the envisaged coalition applauding it as a progressive move to wrestle power from President Robert Mugabe who has presided over the country’s affairs for the past 37 years.

“Our party is clear that the trajectory of the coalition is the one we are taking. Our leadership is seized with ensuring that the coalition stands.

“Our position as the youth assembly is that we will follow the decisions that have been made by the highest decision making body, which is the National Council of the party.

“We stand guided by the decisions made and we believe that any wing will abide by those decisions made by the Council,” said Chinoputsa while pouring cold water on reports that some party leaders in Matabeleland were working against the planned alliance.
