MDC legislator blasts Mugabe,Biti

MDC-T Member of Parliament for Bulawayo South Eddie Cross has said President Mugabe and People’s Democratic Party leader Tendai Biti are clueless when it comes to issues of nation building.

Cross said this country requires people who have knowledge on how to bring the economy on its toes rather than those that possess academic qualifications.

Addressing journalists at a round table discussion, the MDC-T legislator  said people should not judge a person based on how far they have gone in their academic life as his mother only did two years of elementary school but still managed to make it in life.

“People tend to make a mistake that if someone is  academically rich he or she is wise. That is not the case.

“President (MDC-T) Tsvangirai is the wisest man I have ever met. He pays attention to detail and he is the one to lead us to a better Zimbabwe.

Of course people mock him and say he is uneducated but we have some educated people in the country like President Mugabe and Tendai Biti, who lack knowledge on nation building,” said Cross.

He added that if Zimbabwe is to be restored to its former glory, then Tsvangirai is the right candidate for the 2018 elections.

Cross was responding to questions at a round table discussion that was running under the topic “Zimbabwean local government land distribution policy: An act of good faith or campaign strategy?” where he was joined by George Makoni of  Center for Community Development in Zimbabwe (CCDZ) and Marvelous Makoni of the Chitungwiza Residents’ Trust (Chitrest) .

He said if the MDC-T is elected into power, they are going to give land to people regardless of their political affiliation.

“We are going to be allocating land to everyone, not because they belong to a certain party but because they are citizens of Zimbabwe who deserve a right to their God given resources,” he said.

He took a swipe at ZANU-PF for the  partisan allocation of land saying youths who belong to the ruling party are the only ones set to benefit  from the proposed  land distribution being spearheaded  by the Ministry of Local Government .

He accused Kasukuwere and his ministry of using land to lure youths to vote for the ruling party in the forthcoming  elections.

“ We all know what Kasukuwere is capable of doing, the recent allocation of residential stands by his ministry is definitely out of goodwill but it’s a way of manipulating youths to  vote for them,” fumed Cross urging government to desist from politicizing land as everyone in Zimbabwe deserves a piece of land.

“This is one of the biggest land distribution projects to be undertaken by the local government ministry but its criminal one. They are stealing land and giving it to everyone who will vote for ZANU-PF, which is totally wrong,” the Bulawayo South MP said.

He added that once the MDC-T is elected into power, it will clean the mess at all ministries while accusing ZANU-PF of lacking a clear campaigning strategy and resorting to vote buying, a trick which he said is synonymous with the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the MDC-T will resume its nationwide demonstrations in Mutare on Thursday as they demonstrate against poor governance and poor service delivery perpetuated by the ZANU-PF led government.

The opposition party is calling on government to put in place measures that will bring the country’s economy back on its feet and is strongly against the introduction of bond notes which are set to hit the market in August this year.
