Inaugural JM Busha 54 Marathons On The Cards

JM BUSHA 54 Marathon Races launched Investment broker and South African based businessman Joseph Busha on January 25 launched the JM Busha 54 marathon races Zimbabwean Chapter. The Zimbabwean Chapter is one of the 54 races set to be held on May 25 to celebrate Africa Day.

Preparations for the inaugural edition of the JM Busha 54 Marathons Races, slated for May, are on course with the tournament targeting local athletes.

Chairman of the Harare Athletics Board said preparations are going smoothly for the event which seeks to promote peace and unity in sports, particularly in athletics, will see participants drawn from various provinces taking part.

“We are geared up for this noble event, a first of its kind in the country as it speaks about peace and unity, not only in sports but in Africa as a whole.

“So we are ready to host the event and we are mainly paying much attention to our local athletes because we want to use this as a foundation to look for athletes who will represent team Zimbabwe in the Olympics. So this is also a project we hope will go a long way in unlocking new gems on the athletics scene,” said Garikayi.

Emirates

The event which is being bankrolled by JM Busha 54 Marathons, a nonprofit making organization, will be an annual event, with more than $1.2 million set aside over the next four years.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the tournament, NAAZ President Tendai Tagara paid homage to the sponsors saying it came at a right time when the country is currently going through an economic meltdown.

“This is what we said when we assumed office that we want to create a brand that will attract partnership and we think this is a step in the right direction,” Tagara said.

The organization’s country representative Vimbai Zinyama said their purpose is to see Zimbabwe and Africa developing world class athletes who will dominate in major athletics events. Adding that the South African based in will sponsor the marathon to more than 300 000 dollars for this year”s edition.
