Heart breaking stories of people living with leprosy at Mutemwa Leprosy Center
Mutemwa Leprosy Centre located in Mutoko is facing economic challenges whereby the self sufficient program’s state has declined and the donor community has shrunk leaving the patients and staff destitute. The center is pleading for funding from well wishers all over the world so that it maybe able to sustain its operations.
Leprosy is an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in the arms, legs, and skin areas around the body. The disease has been around since ancient times, often surrounded by terrifying, negative stigmas and tales of leprosy patients being shunned as outcasts. Outbreaks of leprosy have affected, and panicked, people on every continent.
