Gweru Book Fair Official Launch Moved to Thursday

The official launch of the Gweru International Book Festival (GIBF) originally set for Friday the 15th has been brought forward to Thursday the 14th to accommodate Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Lazarus Dokora’s schedule.

Speaking exclusively to 263Chat, the Festival Project Manager, Archibald Marwizi said the shift is meant to accommodate the Ministers’ schedule who is set to travel on the originally set date.

“GIBF official launch is now on Thursday 14 September 2017 at the Gweru Civic Centre to accommodate changes in the Minister’s itinerary,” Marwizi said.

Dr Dokora who is the Guest of Honor is set to officially unveil the first ever all-inclusive Book Festival in the Province founded by one of Gweru’s own authors, Ignatius Musonza.

The BookFest is part of the belated International Literacy Day commemorations which take place on the 8th of September every year and will be a free entry event partnered by different corporate institutions.

Some of the activities expected on the three day event (from the 14th to 16th of September) include a family fun day, exhibitions, book and music launches, workshops, competitions and awards in different categories which include debates, public speaking, poetry, music, dance, story writing, visual arts, film, fashion and talent show, academic paper presentations, a Jumping castle for kids and several other others.
