First regional production at Theatre in The Park

Rooftop Promotions/ Theatre in The Park this week brings you its first regional production titled A Love Song for the Impotent Son in Law from Zambia.

The play will run from the 23rd to the 29th April.

The play was written by two Zambian renowned prolific writers Samuel Kasankha Phiri and Henry Joe Sakala and will be directed by Memory Kumbota.

A Love Song for the Impotent Son in Law is a tale of a loving couple that is unable to enjoy marital peace and harmony because each has a secret, each has a skeleton in the closet, from their past, which comes to haunt their marriage in different ways.

Once these two secrets are by cruel circumstances brought out in the open can the marriage still hold?  That is what the audience ought to come and witness.

Rooftop Promotions Producer Daves Guzha said after almost a two year absent from active participation at Theatre in The Park stage this is a great opportunity to kick start new relationship with other production houses across the region and beyond.

“Zambian A Love Song for the Impotent Son in Law is our first production from outside Zimbabwe and we hope we will bring more new collaborations and exciting productions to Theatre in The Park.

“Our new stage venue just like the old Thatched Gazebo is open to work with anyone involved in theatre in and outside Zimbabwe and we are working round the clock to seal new collaborations.

“The new venue is set to increase its productions per year calendar from the previous number from Regional and International Production Houses.

Emirates

The new theatre in the park venue is situated at the corner of Leopold Takawira and Herbert Chitepo avenue in Harare Gardens (opposite American Embassy) in Harare Gardens.

The Zambian adopted play will feature the country’s cream da le crème.

Award winning Caroline Mashingaidze who is not new to Rooftop productions.[i]  She was part of Sinners cast, and acted in a film Pfuma by Pastime called Desperate in Love, Lovers Friends and Money, Ten Bush play by Rooftop Promotions.  She is also a recipient of the NAMA Award.

Veteran actor Eddie Sandifolo was part of ZBCTV series Tiriparwendo, Zambezi and Souls of Emmanuel.

They will be ably supported by Chipo Bizure the famous eve from studio, and has appeared on several stage play such as Heal the Wounds, Rituals and the famous female rapist film the Sinners.

Also on stage will be the First lady of sports StarFM  sports  presenter Yvonne Mangunda  who is a product of Patrick Tembo’s Shooting Stars Theatre Club where she started in high school,  she has done stage, television and film, being nominated for NAMA best actress award for her portrayal of Sibo in ground breaking soap opera  Studio 263.

Francis Nyakuhwa who has s appeared in a plethora of theatre productions such as Crucial Triviality (HIFA 2014), Protest Revolutionaries (2013), Yours Abundantly Zimbabwe (HIFA 2010), acted and co directed Wedding Day (2010) which was showcased the Mannenburg, Drama for Life (South Africa) and Intwasa and also After the Dust Settles (HIFA 2009).

The cast will be completed by and veteran stage actor Antony Mazhetese  Rutendo Tapiwa Chigudu both University of Zimbabwe Theatre Arts graduates  Rutendo recipient of the University of Zimbabwe’s Theatre Arts Merit and Achievement Award (2012) she has performed a number of shows including; Eclipsed, In the Continuum, Fists and Fingers, The Frog Queen (which earned her the NAMA nomination, 2006), Rituals, On the Seventh Day, Aladdin, to name but a few.
