Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) in conjunction with Environmental Management Agency (EMA) on Wednesday held a clean-up campaign to promoting zero tolerance to litter during the week-long festivities of the Harare International Carnival.

Addressing a press briefing at the Fourth Street bus terminus, Environment Management Agency (EMA) board member, Barbra Rwodzi said this year’s edition of the Harare International Carnival coincides with world clean-up month, calling on citizens spare a thought for the environment.

“As we enjoy the festivities of Harare International Carnival, let us spare a thought for the environment by embracing the Zero Tolerance to Litter stance,” said Rwodzi.

She urged people to desist from certain behaviors that promote uncleanliness.

“During the festival people should always place litter in a bin, reject use of kaylites, use shopping bags instead of carrier bags, desist from throwing litter outside windows and undertake clean ups during and after carnival,” added Rwodzi.

Speaking at the same event, Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), Karikoga Kaseke called on Zimbabweans to live a lasting impression to visitors who will be in the country for the mega festival.

“26 countries will be coming to Zimbabwe for the carnival and as a city we should make sure it is clean and conducive for them,” said Kaseke.

“We have paved the route that is going to be used by the carnival, prepared place where people are going to gather, bins have been placed at the various places, motorists have also been alerted about the routes not to use,” said Charumbira adding that mobile toilets will be placed at various spots around the city.
